Pocono Mountains Host Winter Golf Tournament

‘Ice Tee’ Event Joins Summer Recreation with Winter Wonderland, Spots Still Available

(POCONO MOUNTAINS, Pennsylvania) – The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) announces the Ice Tee Golf Tournament will be played Feb. 21 on frozen Lake Wallenpaupack.

Incorporating a celebration of winter with one of summer’s most popular sports in the Pocono Mountains, the 9-hole, Ice Tee tournament is a long-standing tradition. Donated Christmas trees are implanted and serve as markers for tee boxes and “greens,” while four-inch “hollows” are cut for holes. Golfers may only bring three clubs, including one putter; USGA rules are used.

Participation costs $15 for pre-registered participants, $20 day-of and colored golf balls are provided. The Ice Tee Golf Tournament is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For additional information, please visit www.800poconos.com or call 800-POCONOS.

If the lake doesn’t remain frozen, the event will take place at the Wilsonville Recreation Area Campground. New features this year include “Beat the Pro”, which pairs contestants versus Pocono Mountains golf professionals, as well as an ice slide and a full-service bar crafted by Sculpted Ice Works. The traditional “Closest to the Wally” driving contest will occur.

“This festive, unique event marries two of the Pocono Mountains most popular outdoor activities,” said Carl Wilgus, President and CEO of the PMVB. “It allows our many enthusiastic golfers to play before the spring thaw, while enjoying the beautiful winter scenery.”

The Ice Tee Golf Tournament is one of many seasonal outings in the Pocono Mountains, which boasts many skiing venues and other winter outdoor activities and attractions. The four-county area is also home to more than 35 golf courses ranging from challenging, championship-style layouts to par-3 designs better suited for juniors, beginners and those who prefer a short-course experience.
