Island of Cozumel Celebrates 2013 Golfing Weekend, May 3-4

Tournament Played at Nicklaus-Designed Cozumel Country Club

(Cozumel, Mexico) - The Caribbean’s premier golf event is returning to the Island of Cozumel as the 5th International Cozumel Island Golf Tournament opens for men’s and ladies play May 4 at the prestigious Jack Nicklaus-designed Cozumel Country Club.

Part of a weekend full of golf activities, golfers will take on the Cozumel Country Club’s 6,734-yard, par 72 course, a layout carefully sculpted from the native jungle and beautiful mangroves and lakes on the northern end of Cozumel Island.

Cozumel Country Club was the first golf course in Mexico to earn certification by Audubon International as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary and offers players the chance to test their skills while surrounded by the flora and fauna native to the Island.

While golfers compete for the tournament title, non-golfers can enjoy for the crystal-blue waters for snorkeling and scuba amidst the world’s second-largest coral reef. The resort’s on-property Dive Shop, a PADI Gold Palm Five-Star Dive Center, offers certified dive trips every morning from its exclusive pier.

The complete tournament package starts at $510 for single golfers and includes two nights at the Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, a welcome cocktail for all players, a night putting contest which benefits a local charity, a welcome kit for all participants, the greens fee for the tournament and a special rate for practice rounds. Transportation to and from the tournament on the day of the event is included as well as drinks and lunch at the golf course. Golfers and their guests also receive a discount in the resort’s Mandara Spa and special room rates for additional nights.

A handicap or index is required as provided by either the USGA, the Mexican Federation of Golf or as verified by the player’s home course golf professional.

Tournament prizes include a car for the first hole in one on the designated par 3 hole, “Long Drive” and “Closest to the Pin” prizes and raffles for trips around the world with hotel stays and airfare at different destinations.
