Marin Country Club To Host Tournament Fundraiser for Parkinson's

Proceeds To Benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation

(Novato CA) – With no known cure and affecting well over 10 million people around the world, Parkinson’s is an unforgiving and debilitating disease. When the hideous affliction reared its ugly head amongst one of the members at Marin Country Club, the membership took action. Sponsoring a golf tournament at the beautiful country club in hopes of raising much-needed funds to continue the fight that has touched the lives of Muhammad Ali and Michael J. Fox will be April 26 in a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

“We have an extremely tight community here at Marin Country Club and all of us felt it was only natural and right to rally around one of our own, Justin Vedder who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s,” said Ryan Wilson, General Manager of Marin Country Club. “It’s our own way of showing support for the Vedder family and to let them know that we are all in this struggle together. We will do all we can to help them. This golf tournament is just one step in our journey with them.”

Proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease through an aggressively funded research agenda along with ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with the disease today is the driving force behind so many who are working with the Foundation. “The cures we want aren’t going to fall from the sky. We have to get ladders and climb up and get them,” said Michael J. Fox, actor, father and husband. The core values of the Michael J. Fox Foundation are 100% patient focused, obsessed with efficiency, dominated by risk-takers and problem-solvers and won’t stop researching until a cure is found.

Space is very limited in the playing field of 120 golfers. Marin Country Club encourages you to call and fill in your spot or four-some today by calling the Pro Shop at (415) 382-6702. Price is $250 per player. “We’d appreciate if people could sign up as four-somes, but singles are always welcome. It’s all for a wonderful cause and when it’s hit home like it has for us at MCC, it embodies the event with an increased level of understanding and love,” said Ken Doherty, Head Golf Professional at Marin Country Club. After tournament action, there will be appetizers and a cash bar along with an Awards Ceremony and a Silent Auction.
